Methodology changelog

Every change to how we calculate the AI Visibility Readiness Score, and what it means for your results.

Answer engines change, and our methodology changes with them. Each version is recorded here so you can always tell whether a score changed because of your website or because of our scoring rules. Reports created under an earlier version keep their original score.

Each entry shows what changed, why we changed it, and whether it affects scores from earlier versions.

v2026.10

Current version · Effective October 23, 2026

What’s included

  • Seven weighted categories: Service Clarity (20), Search Intent Match (15), Local Signals (15), Trust Signals (15), Conversion Path (15), Structured Data (10), AI Access & Answerability (10).
  • Four score labels, from Needs Attention to Strong AI Visibility Signals, plus Needs Manual Review.
  • Four critical gates, for Service Clarity, Trust Signals, Local Signals and AI search crawler access, plus Manual Review when a page can’t be read reliably.

Changes from the previous version

  • Renamed: AI Answerability is now AI Access & Answerability. The category now also checks whether AI can reach and read the page, not only whether it can summarize it.
  • Added: a critical gate for AI search access. If robots.txt verifiably blocks OAI-SearchBot, Claude-SearchBot and PerplexityBot, the score is capped at 79. Blocking AI training crawlers doesn’t count.
  • Changed: AI Access & Answerability now also checks whether your content is delivered in the page itself rather than only by scripts, whether the page asks search engines not to index or quote it, whether it gives a clear answer to a question, and whether it shows a recent update date.
  • Fixed: structured data (JSON-LD) on a page is now read correctly, so pages with valid markup now score higher in Structured Data and Trust Signals than under v2026.06.

Impact on earlier scores

  • Reports created under earlier versions keep their original score. New audits use v2026.10.
  • Category weights and score labels did not change. In our reference tests, the same page's score moved between 2 points lower and 5 points higher.
