How to Know If ChatGPT Can Recommend Your Business
You can check what AI tools say about your business in about 15 minutes. Here’s a simple method you can repeat every month — and how to read the results without overreacting.

Before you start: one answer isn’t a ranking
An AI answer can change with the wording of the question, the tool, the person’s location and even the day. Treat each answer as one observation, not a permanent position. What matters is the pattern over time.
Step 1: Write three questions a real customer would ask
Use the words your customers use, not your business name. Some examples:
| Industry | Example questions |
|---|---|
| Med spa | “Which med spa near [city] is good for laser hair removal?” · “Where can I get Botox in [neighborhood] with evening appointments?” |
| Dental | “What’s a good family dentist in [city] that takes [insurance]?” · “Which dentist near me sees kids on Saturdays?” |
| Home services | “Who’s a reliable roofer in [city] that offers free estimates?” · “Emergency plumber near [neighborhood] open on weekends?” |
Step 2: Ask them in a clean session
Open a new chat in ChatGPT. If you can, use it without being logged in, or with memory turned off, so earlier conversations don’t affect the answer. Then ask the same questions in Gemini, Perplexity and Claude: the method works for all of them.
Step 3: Write down four things
For each question and each tool, record:
| What to note | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Do you appear? | The basic signal. |
| Is what it says accurate? | Wrong services, hours or locations point to unclear information. |
| Which sources does it cite? | Shows whether your own website is being used. |
| Which competitors appear? | Shows who AI sees as the reference in your market. |
A simple spreadsheet is enough. Save the date and the exact wording of each question.
Step 4: Look at your own page
If AI didn’t mention you, or described you incorrectly, open your homepage or main service page and check: does it clearly say what you offer, who it’s for, where you work, why people trust you and how to book? Most gaps show up here. Read: 5 Reasons AI Assistants May Ignore Your Website →
Step 5: Repeat once a month
Use the same questions, the same tools and the same conditions. Make improvements in between, and compare.
Don’t read too much into citations
A citation means a source helped shape the answer. It doesn’t prove the AI endorses that business, or that the answer is accurate. Check whether the cited page actually supports what the AI said.
Combine spot checks with a structured audit
Spot checks show you what AI says today. A structured audit of your page shows you why, and what to change. Together, they give you a clear improvement cycle instead of reacting to every single answer.
FAQ
Can VISIBLA test ChatGPT directly?
The Full Report includes an AI Simulation: our assessment of how an AI assistant may read your page, based on its public content. It isn’t a recorded answer from ChatGPT or any other tool, and no test can guarantee future answers.
How often should I check?
Once a month is enough for most businesses, ideally after you publish changes.
